More than 230 participants joined SPEAC on August 25 for a webinar introducing the Automated Brighton Classification (ABC) Tool, the first session in a new webinar series highlighting tools and resources developed to support vaccine safety monitoring and assessment.
The ABC Tool supports the standardized assessment of adverse events following immunization (AEFIs) using Brighton Collaboration case definitions. Through structured questionnaires, the tool guides users through the relevant case-definition criteria and automatically determines the appropriate Level of Diagnostic Certainty (LoC), helping support consistent case classification across clinical, research, and vaccine safety surveillance settings.
During the webinar, participants received an introduction to the ABC Tool and a demonstration of how it works in practice. The session also featured perspectives from Clare Cutland, Florence van Hunsel, Emmanuel Masunga, Walter Strauss, and Biniyam Tedla on the tool’s potential applications across a variety of vaccine safety settings.
