SPEAC at ISOP 2025: Supporting Global Vaccine Safety Implementation

The International Society of Pharmacovigilance (ISOP) 2025 Annual Meeting in Cairo will feature multiple presentations from the Safety Platform for Emergency vACcines (SPEAC), funded by CEPI and hosted by the Brighton Collaboration. SPEAC experts will share how existing tools and methodologies are being applied to strengthen vaccine safety monitoring and interpretation in both emergency response and routine immunization settings.

This year’s contributions highlight the continued global use and practical value of SPEAC and Brighton resources.

🔹 Pre-Conference Course | October 24, 2025🔹

Sessions will demonstrate how standardized case definitions and incidence rate methodologies are being used globally to support consistent safety evaluation.

Featured SPEAC presentations:

  • Dr. Miriam SturkenboomBrighton Definitions: Strengthening the Evaluation of Adverse Events Following Immunization
  • Dr. Andy StergachisHarmonizing vaccine safety:  Applicability of Brighton definitions for safety surveillance and background rates of AEFIs.

🔹Scientific Program | October 25, 2025🔹

Podium Presentation: Generation of Safety Evidence in the Context of Public Health Emergency: Scoping Review of Mpox Vaccine Active Safety Surveillance Protocols presented by Dr. Andy Stergachis

  • Thrombocytopenia as an Adverse Event of Special Interest (AESI): Background Incidence Rates, Risk Factors, and Association with VaccinationPresenter: Hammad Ali

The Value of This Work

These sessions reflect how SPEAC tools are being incorporated into active safety surveillance systems, enabling more consistent interpretation of vaccine safety data and supporting preparedness for emerging infectious threats. This applied use continues to inform global efforts to scale reliable vaccine safety practices across different regions and health system capacities.

This work is supported by CEPI as part of its mission to accelerate the development of safe and effective vaccines against epidemic threats.
