SPEAC and CEPI members participated in the 23rd annual conference of the International Society of Pharmacovigilance ISoP

Last week, Safety Platform for Emergency vACcines (SPEAC) and CEPI (Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations) members participated in the 23rd annual conference of the International Society of Pharmacovigilance (ISoP Online) in Montreal focused on “Global Perspectives on Pharmacovigilance in the Digital Age and Advanced Therapeutics.”

Chaired by CEPI (Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations)’s Rebecca Chandler, the Plenary session “Preparedness for the next disaster” discussed important vaccine safety and evidence generation aspects. Eileen Farnon from Safety Platform for Emergency vACcines (SPEAC) and the Brighton Collaboration discussed tools and guidance to support the efficient and robust generation of safety evidence. Bruce Carleton highlighted the role of genomics in understanding vaccine safety, while Danielle Craig emphasized regulatory preparedness to generate strong evidence for vaccines during public health emergencies. Alexander Precioso focused on the importance of building pharmacovigilance capacity among vaccine manufacturers in the Global South. Additionally, two research abstracts were presented: one on adverse events following COVID-19 vaccinations in South Africa by Kimberley Gutu, and another on tinnitus cases after COVID-19 vaccinations in Sweden by Anders Sundström.

🌐 Aligned with the theme of ISoP’s annual conference on the digital era, sharing knowledge about Adverse Events of Special Interest (AESI) has become increasingly important.
